You may like to do your own makeup in your bathroom. But do you know that it is probably not the best place for your mobile makeup artist to do your makeup for your wedding day, engagement party or formal?
A good workstation for your makeup artist will make the process more efficient, and you will get better results, too.
We travel all around Sydney and surrounding areas. We have been to many homes and hotels. Here are some tips we can share from our experience.
Lighting
This is the most important factor when you consider where your makeup artist(s) should set up the workstation. Generally speaking, access to natural lighting will be best (unless it is east-facing and the sun is rising). If natural light is not available, then anywhere with cool, white light is better than warm, yellow light. This is because flaws will show under cool, white light, so your makeup artist will be able to see and work on them. If your makeup looks good under white light, it will look amazing under warm, yellow light.
Chairs
If your makeup artist prefers to stand while working, then a bar stool or kitchen stool would provide a good height for your makeup to be done. Some makeup artists prefer sitting down, in that case two dining chairs facing each other would be ideal. You will be able to find out your makeup artist's working habit during the trial. Some makeup artists may bring their own chairs (depending on how much makeup and hair equipment they also carry).
However, don't stress if you don't have any suitable chairs readily available. An experienced makeup artist will be able to work in any environment. We have worked on brides sitting on beds and on toilet seats, and they still looked amazing :)
Table for the makeup kit
Most makeup artists like to set out all the makeup and brushes on a table before starting to work, while some makeup artists are able to work out of their train cases. In any case, some space on a table (e.g. dinning table or coffee table) will help.
Number of makeup artists
Remember to ask how many makeup artists will be working together, so that you can ensure enough space is allocated.
Consider all parts of your apartment/house
It may surprise you, but some of the best places we have used as work stations are dining rooms, kitchen benches and verandas.
