If you are meeting your makeup artist / hair stylist for a one-off special event makeover, such as corporate headshot, school formal or dinner party, there are little things you can do beforehand to make the process smoother for everyone and get a better outcome for you as well!
Skin
- Exfoliate and moisturise skin the evening prior. Use your routine products, and do not try any new products that you have not used before to minimise the chance of adverse reaction.
- Cleanse, use moisturiser and eye cream as usual in the morning. Nothing can substitute well-looked after and hydrated skin.
- For studio photoshoot, or evening functions involving flash photography, avoid sunscreen or SPF (in particular, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide). These ingredients may cause a flash back.
- Any contact lenses should be already worn in prior to makeup. It is tricky to put in contact lenses after makeup has been done.
Hair
- Use shampoo twice and conditioner once the evening prior. This helps getting rid of excess oil near the scalp to pump up volume at the roots, but will not leave hair strands overly dry.
- Blow dry or let hair dry naturally. Most hair styling equipment works on dry hair.
- Avoid using any leave-in oil or silicone based products. They tend to make styling equipment less efficient.

Thinking of updating your professional headshot? Check out our photography partner Corporate Imagery
Corporate Imagery creates beautiful, bold images that build brands. They say a picture tells a thousand words and that you only have moments to make a first impression. These sayings may be cliches, but in business they are true.
Corporate Imagery puts in the time required for our great photography to tell your story. Whether it’s stunning corporate headshots to nail that first impression on LinkedIn or thorough event coverage, or perfectly framed corporate imagery – this could be your offices, the services you deliver or the annual report you publish to showcase your achievements and impress your investors.
They create the perfect images of your employees for Sydney-based organisations of any size, large or small. For key personnel, they offer beautiful Executive Portraits, a series of professional images in line with your company’s values and in keeping with your corporate image.
They also produce corporate event photography, from multi-day conferences to product announcements. They capture the key moments, the very best images of the day without ever getting in the way.
