Cleansing goals for dry skin
Dry skin is skin that lack natural oil. Dry skin still needs to be properly cleansed to get rid of any dirt, dead skin cells and other impurities. Choose a cleanser that does not strip the precious oil from the skin.
How often?
Once in the morning. Double cleanse in the evening or before going to bed.
Cleansing milk
Cleansing milk is one of the most gentle forms of cleansing available. It is a non-foaming cleansing lotion. The lotion contains nourishing emollients which dissolves and lifts off unwanted impurities when massaged onto the skin. It can remove excess oil (such as the oil residue from the first step of double cleansing) without stripping the skin. Cleansing milk are usually formulated with a pH close to the skin (being slightly acidic) to keep the pH of the skin balanced.
Cleansing milk can be used on dry or wet skin. I found that it is most effective when used on skin that has just been "pat dried" (very moist but not wet). A good cleansing milk is capable of being rinsed off without too much residue left. Some cleansers suggest that they can be "tissued off" without rinsing. This can be used for skin that is water-intolerant.

Cream cleanser
Cream cleanser is similar to cleansing milk, but a cream cleanser is richer and is suitable for dry, mature or sensitive skin.
Choose a cream cleanser that is non-foaming. The rich cream contains nourishing emollients to lift impurities (similar to cleansing milk). Some cream cleansers can be rinsed off, while others need to be wiped off. Unless your skin is extremely dry, sensitive or water-intolerant, choose a cleanser that can be rinsed off. The lesser residue remains on skin, the more effective it is for the next layer of skincare to penetrate.
In the next part of this blog post, I will go on to explain cleansers suitable for normal to oily skin.
