1. Be on time
This is probably the most important box that you, as a bridesmaid, need to tick. Double check with the bride or the wedding coordinator what time the makeup artist / hair stylist will be arriving. Make sure you are there when they need to start. If you run late, your makeup artist cannot start on time and everything else may run late accordingly.
2. Be prepared
The bridal party should have a discussion before the wedding day on how they would like their makeup and hair done.
Style of makeup
If the bride has already had a trial done, the makeup artist will usually apply complementary bridesmaids' makeup. However, if any of the bridesmaids have special requests, such as intense false lashes or strong contouring, this should be discussed with the bride and the bridal party well beforehand.
Style of hair
Similarly, make a decision before the wedding day whether all the bridesmaids would have a similar hair style, or each to choose their own. If consistency is required, agree on a couple of styling pictures, have them ready (preferably in printed copies) and give them to the stylists on the day. Googling images after the stylists have arrived is not the best use of time.
Again, if any of the bridesmaids have any special requests, such as a particular side they wish to part their hair, this should also be discussed with the rest of the bridal party well in advance.
Skin preparation
For best makeup results, amp up your skincare regimen leading up to the special day. Some tips can be found here.
On the day, prepare your skin before the makeup artist arrives. This includes (at least) cleansing and moisturising. Apply sunscreen if you wish to. Makeup artists do not generally supply sunscreens because of sensitivity issues. See more information on sunscreens here.
Contact lenses (if necessary) should be worn in before makeup starts.
Hair preparation
Start using silicone-free shampoo and conditioner as soon as possible.
Unless your hair becomes very oily very quickly, we recommend you to wash and dry your hair the evening before the wedding day. Use shampoo twice, followed by conditioner once. Blow dry your hair that night. If you can, avoid any leave-in treatment, including hair oil elixir, serum and cream as they tend to weigh hair down.

3. Concentrate
Do not eat or look at your phone while you are having your makeup done as it will slow down the progress.
4. Help the bride
The wedding day is all about the bride. If the bride does not hire a makeup artist to stay onsite, you can help the bride to look good throughout the day. Nominate a person (or volunteer yourself!) to take care of the bride's makeup and hair touch up bag. Make sure the bag stays with you (or close by) the whole time. Unless the bride takes a selfie every 5 minutes, she may not know how well the makeup is staying on her, so it is your job to constantly check whether the bride needs a lipstick or powder touch up.
