In this series of blog posts, come for a tour inside my train case - the makeup products that I bring to work. I'll share with you some of my top tips along the way.
Following on last week's theme on flawless base, I dive a little deeper into foundation application.

1. Beauty blender
The original beautyblender is my favourite foundation sponge as I find it versatile enough to give me a variety of coverage (sheer to full coverage) and finishes (matte or dewy). For example, for a sheer, dewy finish I wet the sponge with thermal spring water before applying foundation. The only disadvantage is the cleaning. Like any other foundation brushes and sponges, beauty blender needs to be cleaned thoroughly after each use, but cleaning beauty blender can be tricky as the beauty blender is quite fragile and easy to tear during the process.
Top tip: to increase coverage, use a dabbing motion instead of wiping it across skin.
2. Disposable sponges
I always have a pack of disposable sponges in my train case in case I have a large bridal party or run out of clean beauty blenders for whatever reason. My favourite are these ones from Daiso. They are incredibly good for the price and convenience. Can be used dry or wet, but they are most useful when I need a full coverage.
Top tip: I use the triangular side to apply foundation and the rectangular side for blending.
3. Foundation brushes
Brushes can also produce versatile results but I need different brushes to achieve different results. For example, I found that a traditional foundation brush works really well on good, smooth skin for a sheer finish, whereas a buffing brush does a better job in building coverage.
Top tip: use a concealer brush or a foundation sponge to blend out any streaks from a foundation brush.
4. Fingers?
Using fingers to apply foundation is considered unacceptable in bridal services for hygienic reasons. Clients often find this unprofessional. However, this is the quickest and easiest way to do my own foundation. It doesn't give me exactly the same finish as a beauty blender, but it saves a lot of foundation that would otherwise be wasted in a sponge or a brush.
Top tip: use a concealer brush to reach places such as the sides of the nose and the outer corners of the eyes.
