1. Tidy up your brows
Unless bushy or messy brows is your signature, tidy them up! It may be tweezing, waxing, shaving... just do something.
If you opt for waxing - do so 2-3 days before the photoshoot to allow any redness to calm.
2. Prime your skin
Primer is non-negotiable for a good base. It smooths out skin texture and fills pores. Your effort will show in the picture.
3. Don't go overboard with powder
Some powder to control oily skin shine (especially forehead and nose) is a good idea, but don't go overboard. Powder sets into creases to emphasise lines and wrinkles.
4. Contouring makes all the difference
Contouring helps light to "hit" your face at the right places, giving more dimensions to your photo. The key is to blend all hard edges. Contour mimics natural shadows on your face, which should "fade in" and "fade out". If you can tell where the contour starts and ends, it needs more blending!
If you are not sure how to do it, and have no time to practise, then don't do it! Unfortunately, bad contouring will look worse than no contouring.

5. Match your foundation colour to your neck/chest
It's called a headshot but it's really a head-and-neck shot at the very least. Different colours between your face and your neck can give others a disingenuous impression - like you are trying to pretend to be somebody that you are not.
6. Keep your eye shadow neutral
Neutral colours such as taupe and brown will look timelessly professional. If a splash of colour is preferred, lavender, navy and dark moss is generally acceptable.
7. Use a natural eyeliner
Leave cat eyeliners and kicks to your next dinner party. Keep eyeliner subtle and close to the lash line. Bottom eye liner looks very obvious in headshots - keep them as light as possible or leave them out together. If you can manage, do the eyeliner on waterline (inner rim) instead.
8. Keep your lipstick nude
Again, nude or more neutral colours, such as nude pink and nude peach are usually the go-to for professional photos. If red is desirable, a wine red or a plum red will look more sophisticated than a bright red. A dab of gloss can add life to the lips, but avoid making it the focus of attention.
About Corporate Imagery
Corporate Imagery creates beautiful, bold images that build brands. They say a picture tells a thousand words and that you only have moments to make a first impression. These sayings may be cliches, but in business they are true.
Corporate Imagery puts in the time required for our great photography to tell your story. Whether it’s stunning corporate headshots to nail that first impression on LinkedIn or thorough event coverage, or perfectly framed corporate imagery – this could be your offices, the services you deliver or the annual report you publish to showcase your achievements and impress your investors.
They create the perfect images of your employees for Sydney-based organisations of any size, large or small. For key personnel, they offer beautiful Executive Portraits, a series of professional images in line with your company’s values and in keeping with your corporate image.
They also produce corporate event photography, from multi-day conferences to product announcements. They capture the key moments, the very best images of the day without ever getting in the way.
