We haven't been very active in blogging... well, we haven't been doing a lot of weddings lately for obvious reasons, so I decided to start a series of blog posts on a different topic.
A couple of years back I wrote a series of post on bridal skin preparation. But I haven't forgotten that I am a makeup artist :) So let's talk about makeup.
Come and have a look inside my train case - the makeup products that I bring to work. I'll share with you some of my top tips along the way.

1. Primer
Primer is non-negotiable for a flawless base. It smooths out skin texture, fills pores, and makes foundation last longer. Some primers have oil-controlling properties, while others can supplement hydration. For most skin types, I like using Gorgeous Cosmetics First Base Foundation Primer. It works well with every foundation I have come across, and does not change the finish (dewy or matte) of the foundation.
Top tip: After applying primer, wait for at least 5 minutes before applying foundation. This allows the primer to warm up to skin temperature and set properly.
2. Foundation
I have different foundations in my kit to cater for different skin tones and skin types. My favourite is Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. It does exactly what the name says - luminous and silky smooth finish. Buildable coverage from sheer to medium.
Top tip: apply multiple thin layers rather than try to blend one thick layer of foundation. This increases makeup longevity and looks more natural.
3. Powder
A powder sets liquid or cream foundation in place. I have two types of powder in my makeup kit: loose and compact. Usually I prefer loose powder for an airy soft finish. I bring with me one single loose powder: Shu Uemura Face Powder Matte in Colorless. A colourless powder works on all skin tones. I apply face powder with a large fluffy powder brush.
Top Tip: Use a dabbing action action instead of a swiping action to avoid disturbing the foundation.
4. Seal
Once the whole makeup is completed, I lock everything in place with a finishing spray. I carry two with me: Urban Decay All Nighter for combination to oily skin, and MAC Prep & Prime Fix+ for dry skin or those sensitive to alcohol.
Top tip: use 20-25 cm from face. Large droplets can disturb the makeup.
NB. Our stylists each stocks different items in their professional kits to ensure they can choose the products that work best for them.
