Preparing for your makeup trial
There are a few things you can do before your makeup trial appointment to get the most out of it.
1. Skincare and sunscreen
Develop a good skincare regimen and follow it religiously. To get started, read here.
If you would like to use sunscreen on your wedding day, start testing out a few different ones and find one that is suitable for your skin. It is crucial to find one that can be used under makeup. Wear this often before your wedding day to make sure your skin does not react to it. Read more information on sunscreens here.
Exfoliate your skin in the evening before the trial appointment, followed by a hydrating mask. This will provide a smooth skin surface for the makeup to sit on nicely.
2. Inspiration pictures
Start looking for inspiration pictures for makeup styles that you like. There are many photos in our gallery, facebook page and instagram to get you started. Choose those with similar skin tone to yours.
The intensity of makeup usually shows up a lot less (think 50% less!) in professional photos than what it actually is. In other words, when you select your inspiration photos, bear in mind that the intensity of those makeup actually looked heavier in person.
3. Brow shaping
We recommend that brows are shaped by a qualified beauty therapist 3-5 days before the trial.
4. Who to bring
You are welcome to bring a friend or a family member with you to the trial. However, it is best to bring just one person. Having more people at the trial may slow down the progress, and you may not be able to try some of the styles you have in mind because of the timing. In addition, your friend should take the role of supporting you to try what you like, rather than asking you to try what he/she likes.
5. What to wear
Before the trial, follow your usual skincare regimen (see above) and wear the moisturiser and sunscreen that you plan to wear on the wedding day. Try to avoid wearing any makeup, if possible. Also make sure you wear your contact lenses, if you plan to wear them on the wedding day.
As to your outfit, wear a colour that is similar to your wedding gown colour. This will give you a better idea of how the colours of your makeup interact with your dress.
6. Be on time
Be on time. Arriving late often means your appointment would be cut short so you may not be able to try multiple styles. Also, have your pictures ready - we don't want to sound old, but print-outs are always preferable (your phone may run out of battery or data when you need it). Make sure you tell your stylist what you like and don't like - remember, communication is the key to a meaningful trial.
